Harvey Weinstein Convicted Of Rape & Sexual Assault Charges

Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty of the rape and sex assault leveled against him.

Mr. Weinstein faces years in prison after a Manhattan jury found him guilty of two felony sex crimes.

The New York Times report that the verdict was reached on Monday, February 24, 2020, by a jury in State Supreme Court in Manhattan, New York after deliberating for twenty-six hours.

The jury convicted Mr. Weinstein of two count charges, criminal sexual assault in the first degree and rape in the third degree.

However, the jury acquitted him of the most serious charges leveled against him which is the predatory sexual assault.

According to the report, Harvey was acquitted of predatory sexual assault because his accusers couldn’t remember the date and place of the rape incident.

Weinstein faces a possible sentence of between five and 29 years in jail.

In the same vein, the judge ruled that he be remanded in prison pending the date of the final ruling which is scheduled to hold in March 2020.

Regarded as one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, Harvey Weinstein became the epicenter of controversy in 2017 after allegations started to emerge about the producer using his senior position as a means to exploit women in the industry.

Since then more than 90 women have accused Mr. Weinstein of sexual misconduct ranging from lewd propositions to unwanted touching and rape.

Among the long list of the female actors are some of the most notable names in Hollywood like Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd, Gwayneth Paltrow and Lupita Nyong’o who went into great details of her different experience with the movie mogul during the time of his trial.
