Orange Is The New Black top actress Uzoamaka Aduba who is Nigerian explains to fans how she come to cherish her name at the Glamour Magazine’s The Girl Project 2017. Talking about her mum who wouldn’t accept to refer to her with her English name.
In this video below, she explained to fans how she ask her mother to call her ‘Zoe, because no one seemed to be able to pronounce her full name, but her mum wouldn’t have it.
“If they can learn to say Tchaikovsky, they can learn to say your name,” her mum told her.
This cheered her fans up, and is also a lession to us Africans, we should be proud of our names even when we become famous.
Oh yes! If they can learn to pronounce Magaritta, Tchaikosvsky and Sharapova, they can learn to pronounce African names too.
