Singer Alexandra Burke has been criticised by animal rights activists after she was pictured wearing a Canada goose jacket made with real fur, years after posing naked for an anti-fur campaign.
The 29-year-old singer was branded a “fake” and a “hypocrite” after she stepped out in Blackpool wearing a Canada Goose jacket which features real coyote fur as a trim on the hood.
Burke previously lent her support to a PETA campaign, which many have now accused her of fronting for publicity.
According to the Evening Standard, following the pictures of her wearing a Canada Goose jacket, one user tweeted: “How thoughtless Alexandra Burke. Finally respected you for your PETA support but not if you don’t believe in it. @alexandramusic #strictly #PETA.”
Another wrote: “Alexandra Burke….poses for PETA anti-fur campaign then proceeds to wear a real fur trimmed coat. Disappointing.”
Following the criticism, the Strictly Come Dancing star apologised, explaining she was unaware that the jacket she wore was made from real fur.
She took to twitter to apologise saying.
“I’ve just learned the sad truth of how a coat I wore recently was made. I am an animal lover, as most of you will know I have 4 dogs.
“I should have asked how it was manufactured and now I know, I will never wear it again. I am really sorry for any hurt or upset I have caused xx”
