In the spate of the alarmingly high number of women and children who have undergone Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Nigeria, the Nigerian Senate has recently passed a bill to address the situation. The bill known as the Violence against Persons Prohibition Bill (VAPP) is aimed at putting an end to FGM and all other forms of gender-based violence.
This is what “The Lower Cut” movie is all about. “The Lower Cut” is a Docu-Drama on Female Genital Mutilation). It stages its world premiere at the Odeon Cinema, Greenwich, London on Friday the 24th of July, 2015.
The Lower Cut was directed by award-winning director George Kelly and co- directed by award-winning veteran director Chucks Mordi. The movie production started off on a low budget but owing to the topical nature of the subject matter, the Executive Producer, Segun Akindiyini has pledged to release more funds to boost the production value of the movie. Lots of scenes will be re-shot and more funds will be injected into the postproduction. This will have the effect of upgrading the production to a high budget.
According to the Executive Producer, Mr Akindiyini (CEO Chicago Bar Grill & Motel, Akute, Lagos in Nigeria) “I have invested in entertainment for over 30 years but “The Lower Cut” movie is the singular project I identify with, the most. The story is unique, educational and yet entertaining. It deserves nothing short of a big -budget international production.
