‘Beasts of No Nation’s’ star, Abraham Attah Wins Best Male Lead at the Spirit Awards!

Ghanaian fast rising young actor, Abraham Attah was won best male lead at the 31st Film Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday night. The award event was held at the Santa Monica Pier. The 15-year-old newcomer was awarded Best Male Lead for his portrayal of the child soldier Agu in Beasts Of No Nation his first full length movie. 

 

Beating fellow actors Ben Mendelsohn (Mississippi Grind
), Christopher Abbott (James White), Jason Segel (The End of the Tour) and Koudous Seihon (Mediterranea) for the honor.

Attah, a smiling new celeb thanked everyone from his fellow winner and co-star Idris Elba to the Netflix film’s director, Cary Fukunaga, to the costume designers when he took the stage.

Attah’s movie ‘Beast of No Nation‘ which was premiered both in Africa and America is an African war drama, which was Netflix’s first original narrative film. Below is Idris Elba’s moment when he won best supporting actor. He dragged Attah with him not knowing that he will be grabbing his own award.

Idris Elba also answered some questions in the press room. “I’m half Ghanaian, it was my first time in Ghana. It was incredible, it was like a homecoming for me,” he said on what it was like to shoot in Accra.
