The famous Notting Hill Carnival has come and gone. By this time last week, Londoners were celebrating the 51st annual street festival which began on Sat, August 26 and ended Sunday, August 28th. This year, the event allegedly brought in £93 million into London.
From Jamaica, Kenya, Sierra Leonne and Nigeria, UK, Trinidad, Guyana, Ghana, Spain, Portugal, Barbados, Ireland and more, Over two million people attend the 51st annual street festival, which has become Europe’s biggest event of its kind.
There were contemplation if the event should hold this year as it was close to Grenfell Tower.A minute silence took place at 3 pm on August 28 in memory of at least 80 people who died in the blaze.
The Nigerian corner came to live this year, Celebrating ‘One Lagos’. Organised by RMG, DJAMEDIA and G.I Roadshow was supported by the Lagos State government and had in attendance the Hon. Ag Commissioner for Tourism Mrs Adebimpe Akinsola and the Hon. Commissioner for Information and Strategy Mr Steve Ayorinde.
Nigerian celebrities who were also spotted include: Desmond Elliot, Alexx Ekubo, Okey Bakassi, Mc Abbey, Kelechi Arsenal FanTv, Ayo Animashaun, Woli Arole, Helen Paul, Klint Da Drunk, Emma Oh Ma God, Kenny Blaq, Woli Arole, Asiri, Matthew Ohio, Legendary Beats, Yaw, Howie Tee, Asiri.
In conclusion, Notting Hill Carnival 2017 was peaceful and another huge success. Bringing people of different culture together through music and dance at the most talked about the free festival in London where costumes are as bright and as colourful as a sunlight.
