Nigerian boxer, Larry Ekundayo will compete against hot prospect Daniel Aziz in a live, televised show later on today in London and we’re rooting for ‘The Natural Ekundayo’.

The battle, ‘High Stakes’, will take place in Brentwood, Essex, and marks Ekundayo’s, age 35 sensational return to the ring, since his first pro loss against Gary Corcoran on a split decision last July. “I’ve never had a doubt that I’m at world level – I’m a world-class fighter,” Ekundayo said to Boxing News.

He has been formally endorsed by the Ooni of Ife, the Alaafin of Oyo and the House of Representatives, which has passed a motion, requesting public and private bodies to support him this time.

The Stoke Newington welterweight has also been backed by fellow Nigerian boxer and man of the hour, Anthony Joshua.

‘The Natural’ won his first 12 fights as a professional, which included victory in a Prizefighter tournament. At 17, he qualified to take part in the 1999 All African Games in South Africa. As the 1998 Nigerian Amateur Bantamweight champion, he wanted to continue in that category but he didn’t meet up with the requirements at the All African Games. So, he moved to the welterweight category.

In 2006 and 2007, Ekundayo emerged as the London Regional Amateur Boxing Association (ABA) champion. As an amateur, he was in 125 fights – and he won 110 out of them all.

Larry’s career as a professional boxer started in November 2012 when he defeated three boxers in one night to become the Light Middleweight Prizefighter champion in London. He became the first boxer in the competition to be given a £2,000 knockout bonus.
