Country music great Kenny Rodgers has died at the age of 81.

Kenny Rodgers, a prolific singer who played a major role in expanding the audience for country music in the 1970’s and 80’s, passed away peacefully on Friday at his home in Sandy Spring, Georgia, from natural causes.

His death was confirmed in a statement by the family representative on Saturday, march 21.

Kenny Rodgers was a Grammy-winning singer whose career spanned six decades. He had a series of hits to his name which he is well known for, including Coward of the County, The Gambler and Lucille.

“The Rogers family is sad to announce that Kenny Rogers passed away last night at 10:25PM at the age of 81. Rogers passed away peacefully at home from natural causes under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family.,” a statement from SKH Music said.

Rogers’ family plans a small private service due to the coronavirus outbreak, the statement said.
