Award-winning American singer and actress Jemnifer Lopez has been sued to court by a professional photographer for infringement of copyright agreement.
Jennifer Lopez and her production company, Nuyorican Productions, is currently facing a $150,000 lawsuit launched by a New York based photographer identified as Steve Sands who claims she uploaded one of his photo on instagram without his permission.
The artwork in question is said to be a photo of Lopez which Steve photographed. But now he argues that she used the photo to promote her brand without his permission, according to court documents obtained by E! News.
On June 2017, Lopez posted the photo on her Instagram page which boasts a following of 119 million. The photo is said to have accumulated over 656,000 likes.
“Defendants did not license the Photograph from Plaintiff for its Website, nor did Defendants have Plaintiff’s permission or consent to publish the Photograph on its Website,” the lawsuit reads.
Sands’ attorney, Richard Liebowitz, told the news portal in a statement that: “This is an example of celebrities using photographers photographs without permission to brand themselves on social media. The number of likes the photograph receives coupled with their number of social media followers is a tool to commercialize their posts.”
Sands’ legal team is demanding a settlement fee of $150,000.
