Popular Nigerian singers Banky W and Wizkid both took to social media to criticize the Nigerian government following the allocation of N27 billion to the National Assembly for renovation.
The federal government’s recently arrived at a decision to allocate N27 billion from the 2020 budget for the renovation of the National Assembly complex, while slashing funds from other key sectors, including primary health care and The Universal Basic Education fund.
The decision has attracted widespread criticisms from a large section of Nigerians, with Banky W and Wizkid among those to air their displeasure.
Reacting to the news via his Twitter page on Wednesday, June 4, 2020, Banky W blasted those in authority by stating that their are more pressing issues in the country than the renovation of a federal building.
In his post, the outspoken singer and politician said that at a time when citizens of the country are starving and in need of basic amenities like food and accessible healthcare, the federal government still found it necessary to allocate the huge amount of money on renovation at the expense of the health and education budgetary.
He weote: At a time when most Nigerians are seriously struggling with being able to afford everything from FOOD to Healthcare, our National Assembly is going to spend N27 BILLION on “renovations!”
