It’s true that R.Kelly committed a crime, and we’re happy the justice system of the United States is working, unlike in Nigeria where a man like him would easily go free. However, the R &B superstar should be made to pay for his sins alone, unless of course, it is confirmed, that there are accomplices.
The reactions of fans all over the world to a recent decision by Google is worthy of note. He’s going to spend many years in jail after being convicted for sex trafficking. But the Google company, who are also the owners of Youtube, have decided to permanently suspend the legend from its streaming platform.
The two accounts of the singer – RKellyTV and RKellyVevo – have been shut down. Both accounts collectively have more than 5 million subscribers.
The vice president of legal for Youtube and Google – Nicole Alston – confirmed this:
“Egregious actions committed by R. Kelly warrant penalties beyond standard enforcement measures due to a potential to cause widespread harm. Ultimately we are taking this action to protect our users similar to other platforms.”
While many are in support of this, others are asking if this is really justice?
There are some campaigns by some individuals to pull down his official handles from all social media platforms.
A large number of people believe he’ll probably lose almost everything, and the call by Google was wrong. Did the media platforms shut out Harvey Weinstein? His films are still there, Again, what of the individuals who built the R.Kelly Brand? Are they to stop earning little money because of his indecency? Are their sweats meant to be flushed down the pipeline because one member of the board messed up?
What of family members who are dependent on him?
What do you think? Do you think it’s not necessary to consider these things?
Should every memory of him be wiped away from the media “surface”?
