Elizabeth Holmes, a popular American businesswoman born in 1984 and the Chief Executive Officer of Theranos who were at some point addressed as the “female Steve Jobs,” has been found guilty of deliberately defrauding investors, but wasn’t found guilty of defrauding patients. James Clayton from BBC addressed one former investor about the downfall of Theranos, Holmes’ Silicon Valley blood testing start-up once valued at $9bn (£7bn).

In June 2018, a federal grand jury charged her and former Theranos chief operating officer (COO) Ramesh Balwani on nine count charges of wire fraud and two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud for sharing blood tests with falsified results to consumers.
