This is how you do it! Beyonce announced a $100,000 (£70,000) scholarship for students at historically black universities in the US. The mother of 3’s Coachella set made her the first black woman to headline the 19-year-old festival that takes place annually in California.

The news comes while fans are still coming to terms with the spectacle of Beyonce’s Coachella set, which was steeped in historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) culture and symbolism.

Taking her love for and commitment to HBCUs beyond the stage, the scholarship will see Beyoncé’s BeyGood foundation donate $25,000 (£17,000) to four different universities for the 2018-2019 academic year.

The four recipient historically black universities are Xavier University, Wilberforce University, Bethane-Cookman University and Tuskegee University, the institute founded by Booker T Washington, a former slave who became one of most influential African-American scholars of the late 19th century.

Many Beyoncé fans wouldn’t hesitate to enroll in a “HBeyCU” but in the absence of a Beyoncé-themed college or university, the star’s latest announcement is the next best thing.
