Former Nollywood Actress Regina Askia Vent Her Disappointment Over 80 Nigerians Arrest For Fraud!
Regina Askia has taken to social media to write a lengthy note, encouraging Nigerians in the diaspora who are currently facing racism issues, to hang in there and continue to be the best they’ve always been. She said.
“To all my honest hardworking Nigerian American brothers and sisters headed to work this morning, my prayers are with you.
Brace up because a whole lot of stupid will be coming at you from round the block and back. Like the overarching racism culture was not degrading enough, we now have to walk in the shadow of suspicion by folks who should know better and by dusty ass folks with a negative balance in their account acting like you trying to steal something.
Corporate America is notoriously unfriendly when it comes to the hardworking black immigrant. But our resilience and focus keep us rising above all that, rejecting the office of victim hood and taking it all in our stride. We are eagle eyed focused on the big picture and that for most of us is highest possible educational qualification and highest possible office with highest possible pay. Like water, we find our way around any and all obstacles and we make it. But just how much psychological and emotional bullying can a people take. What quality of persons are we at the end of it all. Rich, for sure! Cynical, maybe, healthy – physically and emotionally? With the high blood pressure, weight issues, kidney issues etc….remains to be seen.
When the Orange emperor made his shit hole nation comment, I had a Co-worker come apologize to me. I took that as passive aggression because no right thinking person would hold such words on any level of serious consideration. Bringing it up with me meant I was being given a friendly reminder, and from there on meting the “shitty”treatment confirmed the agenda.
While I am offloading my many observations of the rings of fire on these plantations into a book ( of course with the many ways to ford that drift), I say to my people
so sorry some of our greedy brothers had to put us all in such an embarrassing position. Hang in there, continue to be the best you have always been. We have been down this road before, this one too shall pass. We are Nigerian -Americans, forged in fire – winning is the name of our game. One love.
Cheers”.
The FBI, Obinwanne ‘Invictus’ Okeke & 80 More Nigerian Arrests Over Online Fraud
The FBI arrest of 80 people including Nigerians based in Los Angeles by the FBI for involvement in romance scams and wire fraud. This comes after the arrest of Obinwanne ‘Invictus’ Okeke and Nigerians believe he snitched on this brothers.
Sometime between the 2nd and 6th of August, 2019, the U.S Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested the CEO of Nigerian firm Invictus Group, Obinwanne Okeke, for conspiracy to commit computer fraud and wire fraud. This was after a 13-month investigation.
The US Federal Trade Commission has released a report on scams that prey on vulnerable people cost Americans more money than any other fraud reported to the agency last year.
Barely a week after CEO of Invictus Group, Obinwanne Okeke was arrested by America’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over a $12 million (N4.3bn) fraud, the agency has arrested 80 more Nigerians.
According to the new report, more than 21,000 people were scammed into sending $143 million in such schemes in 2018 alone.
“Reports indicate the scammers are active on dating apps, but also on social media sites that aren’t generally used for dating. For example, many people say the scam started with a Facebook message,” the FTC says.
As online dating becomes more popular and romance scams increase, the FTC warns people to become suspicious of any online relationship if:
- The person wants to leave the dating site immediately and use personal email or messaging
- The person is fast to claim love
- They say they’re traveling or working internationally
- He or she says they want to visit but don’t have the money because, for example, a business deal went sour
- They ask for money without meeting face-to-face
An update served on the arrest, revealed that 77 of the arrested suspects are Nigerians. They were accused of conspiring with federal and state agents to perpetrate the crime. Asides being involved in schemes that resulted in the transfer of at least $6 million which was obtained fraudulently, the suspects were also allegedly involved in the attempted theft of at least an additional $40 million.
US attorney, Nick Hanna said the suspects handed a total of 252 count charges bordering on “conspiracy to defraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering, aggravated identity theft”, had nicknames such as “Thank You Jesus”, “Son of God”, American Man”, God is God”, “He is Risen”.

Nigerian Teens Create Believable sci-fi Movie with Smartphones
A group of students from northern Nigeria are hoping to break into Nollywood thanks to the online success of their short films, created using very basic equipment. Sam Holder reports.
Known as The Critics, the teens made their first film, Redemption, in 2016. They saved for a month to buy the green fabric for the screen and taught themselves how to do visual effects by watching tutorials on Youtube, overcoming limitations like a lack of accessible internet and electricity.
The Kaduna state born teenagers have been together since 2011 and make short films together.
“We went into filmmaking because we were inspired by the movies we watched. Seeing the magic happen onscreen inspired us, and we thought, “what if we could create our own here?” So we started with creating comedy skits, and then we moved on to short films”. Said Godwin Josiah, one of the boys.
He added that they choose to explore sci-fi because that’s where all the cool things happen. They could explore a lot — aliens, flying spaceships, futuristic buildings — and also because the genre hasn’t really been explored in Nollywood.

They’ve made about 20 short films so far. Some are on our YouTube channel called The Critics Company, our Instagram handle, and also our Facebook page called Comic World.

“Kreative Kick” Youth Summit initiative launches in London
A brand new international platform for the wide celebration of youth culture and creativity was launched just on time for International Youth Day (12th of August).
This powerful innovative initiative was originally named and conceptualized as “Kreative Kick” by barrier breaker and Multiple Award Winner Miss-K, who was recently awarded an Honorary award as 1 of 100 most influential women in the world on International Women’s Day.
In Succession to this, the Kreative Kick Youth Summit was created, all to empower and inspire the youth from all multicultural background, including those from the African continent and it’s diaspora, with aims to celebrate diversity and inclusivity by being a youth-led creative platform, through talks and debates, music and performance, comedy and fashion, showcasing creativity in all its form, as well as promoting the rich cultural contribution the Afro-Caribbean creative professional makes throughout their creative heritage, by highlighting and supporting experts within this field.
On the 10th of August the “Kreative Kick Youth Summit”, was launched in one of London’s newly build Artspace Theatre, which featured an eloquent keynote address by Deputy Mayor of Lambeth, Philip Normal, who also assisted Miss-K in giving the Kreative Kick Award Certificates bestowed into eager hands of the panellists who took part in the summit, honouring and recognizing them for their achievements and dedicat
Beginning its first year with a Bang, we are happy to report that the successful premiere of the Kreative Kick Youth Summit 2019 event, had a trail of Multiple Award Winners who attended which included a host of pioneering creators from the “Creative & Entertainment industry”. Meanwhile, throughout the event Dj Unbreakable, kept the crowd entertained between each panellist sets, taking them over his own musical journey of all the latest Afro-Beat hits.
The end of the panel session kicked off the night with a performance from Zenny X who sang lyrics from her new song titled:”Wosa”, the first artist to set the Kreative Kick stage on fire, to entertain the yearning crowd, which led the excited ones to sing along from the top of their voices.

Miss-K, who is the Kreative Kick founder and executive producer, said: “I have created this new creative platform for it to become a leading organisation for cultural relations, which will fosters understanding between Britain and other nations. All to promote skilful talents amongst the youth, across borders, making it a platform who has the potential for wealth and job creation through the generation and exploitation of intellectual property in order to help create economic growth. “We want to celebrate the youth, and chose to do it, by also helping raise awareness on one of the S.D.G agenda created by the United Nations which is based on “Transforming Education“.
As part of building international creative connections, we aim to expand the knowledge and profile of young creative talents, who are eager to pursue a career within the creative field of entertainment and art in the UK. We are therefore delighted to be partnering on this innovative initiative, by giving people the chance to experience a wide range of creative background, as well as cultural heritage.”
Additionally we want the Kreative Kick platform to help merge cultural heritage from Afro-Caribbean backgrounds with the UK, which has had an enormous amount of young industry professionals from this same background, who have contributed in transforming the creative industry in the UK, by helping the British Economy generates an astonishing 101.5 billion pounds from this fast-growing industry since 2010. Key amongst our priorities are: to collectively raise the profile and presence of young Afro-Caribbean creative talents and diaspora in London, to help ensure the breadth and diversity of our creative professional are represented, and to be a shared voice for advocacy and exchange for and with the Afro-Caribbean and diaspora communities in London.”
In support to this, the Mayor of Enfield, Nigerian Cllr Kate Anolue also said: “I am so proud of Miss-K’s new venture, as I am a big fan of promoting education amongst our youth and I’m delighted to support “Kreative Kick“, which is a fantastic development that celebrates the huge impact young Londoners of African heritage have made within the creative industry and continue to make on all aspects of life in our capital.”

Motivation Monday: How to Get Unstuck, Pursue Your Dreams, and Stop Spinning Your Wheels
Why?
Because human beings are built to seek, build, advance, and adapt. In a way, our need to want something better — either for ourselves or civilization — is driven by the feeling of not being good enough. If you think about it, stability inducing a level of contentment across all human beings could cause progression to…stop.
And for all of human history, we haven’t been able to unilaterally agree on, find, or create a sense of certainty in one word — happiness.
We chase after happiness.
On that chase, we can accomplish quite a bit. We can make the world a better place. But does anyone truly capture happiness? Maybe, I don’t know. But today I want to share a thought I’ve been pondering for a while — one that’s helped me move forward in my life with a little less pressure, a dose of realism, and even a twisted sense of motivation.
Maybe the ultimate goal of life isn’t to be happy.
Think about it. Since the beginning of time, nature has never favored the needs of the individual. Species go extinct. Natural disasters wipe out swaths of land and the living organisms in it.
Look at the realm of employment, art, and commerce. For every successful business, there are hundreds of failures. For every famous writer, artist, or musician, there’s a waiter getting rejected through countless rejections at auditions. For every applicant that gets the job, there is a stack of resumes lost in the shuffle.
But we need both the success and the failures to benefit the greater good. Without people trying and failing — lots of people — we wouldn’t advance as a society. So, maybe your job isn’t to try to feel as warm and fuzzy and good as possible before you try to accomplish anything.
Maybe you owe us.
Somewhere along the line, this idea of happiness came about, but the world never wanted or needed happiness from us. It needed our contribution. Maybe happiness is an accidental by-product of contributing. Maybe wanting happiness first is backward.
If the purpose of life isn’t happiness, what is it? Again, I don’t know. But if I had to guess, I’d guess the purpose of life is to be useful.
I found the sense of serving my duty as a human being useful. It motivates me. I don’t always feel like writing these emails, but I made a promise to you and everyone else who gave me permission to communicate with them. I’ve heard from many of you. I know some find these emails quite useful, necessary even. So who the hell am I to stop writing them just because I don’t have rainbows and sunshine coming from my you-know-what that day?
It’s an interesting way to think. That you should pursue big things as a repayment of the debt you owe for being blessed with life.
Iknow you. You have these big dreams for your life — either tucked away in the back of your mind or in crystal clear HD in the front of it — but you’re waiting until you feel like doing something about your situation, or more accurately until you feel like you’re good enough to do something.
Of course, there has to be some inkling or jolt of motivation to start, but if you wait until you’re 100 percent self-confident, content, and happy before you pursue your dreams you’ll never pursue them. Plus, if you were 100 percent self-confident, content, and happy you wouldn’t need to pursue anything. You could just die right then and there — purpose served.
So here we are again. Having this conversation about what you have to offer.
I do my best to steer clear of cliched positivity
But….
You have so so so so much to offer. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about life it’s this — most people die never even fulfilling 10 percent of their potential because they’re sitting around waiting to feel good about themselves before they do anything. What a waste.
I’m not self-confident. I’m not “happy.” I’m not content. I don’t know what I am, but I do know what I do. I use the skills and talent I’ve been given to make my small contribution. How successful will I become? No clue, but I can feel at peace knowing I’m pushing my chips into the “all-in bet” of human civilization. And I’ve come to find that doing provides those ephemeral feelings of contentment and joy.
So let’s make this actionable.
What can you do today to be more useful? You won’t accomplish your dreams this second, so we’ll have to be more practical.
Why not give your job 100% effort today? — make phone calls to the clients you dislike to see how you can help them, put a big dumb smile on your face at the retail counter or drive-through window, set a personal record for the time it takes to install a part at the factory, drink a ton of coffee and reduce your paperwork to zero.
Give your friends or family the most of you today — be completely present with your friends, partner, child (ren), or family members.
Better yet, put some damn effort into that little project you have going on — the blog post…the craft…the business plan…the song you’re writing… the “thing” you know damn well you really want to do but have been putting off. Putting effort into that will really give you a boost.

Lennox Lewis ‘Disappointed’ With Anthony Joshua After Row
Lennox Lewis is very upset. He said that he is “disappointed” with Anthony Joshua after the British boxer called him a clown on national TV.
The pair’s clash started after Lewis said Joshua was not “fully prepared” for his fight against Andy Ruiz Jr, which he lost in New York in June.
Responding to his criticism, Joshua said that he and the former heavyweight champion were “cut from a different cloth”.
In Sky Sports’ AJ: The Untold Truth, Joshua said: “Me and Lennox are not the same. My legacy is to sit back and enjoy the younger generation coming up, and not to be involved. Just to appreciate what it takes to get there.
“Lennox isn’t like that.
“Me and Lennox are cut from a different cloth.”
The 29-year-old also said that he had no respect for the former boxer.
“Lennox is a clown. I don’t respect Lennox,” he said.
Joshua also discussed his future plans and the impact of aiming to become undisputed.
“It was like I was coming to the end of my road already, worrying about undisputed,” he said on Sky Sports’ AJ: The Untold Truth.
“I became heavyweight champion, I unified the division twice, and now my goal is to become two-time heavyweight champion of the world. Once I achieve that, I can look at becoming undisputed champion,” he added.
In response to Joshua’s statements, Lewis tweeted today: “Wow! He’s right! We are cut from a different cloth. Undisputed wasn’t something I ‘worried’ about. It was something I went after until it was accomplished!”
He went on to say that he was “disappointed” with Joshua’s statements and encouraged people to question who benefits from the narrative about the two.
“Disappointed in AJ’s words but I understand that this ‘jealousy’ narrative was only fabricated after I criticised them for Wilder negotiations. All of a sudden I’m a hater.
Ask who benefits from such a simple-minded narrative? Not AJ. Not me,” Lewis added.
