Slay In Your Lane Authors Yomi Adegoke & Elizabeth Uviebinene Awarded £10K Groucho Award

Yomi Adegoke and Elizabeth Uviebinene, authors of a best-selling book, Slay in Your Lane have been awarded £10,000 as winners of The Groucho Club’s Maverick Award.

The co-authors were presented with the prize on Wednesday, November 21st in London.

In a statement, they said: “So, so honoured to have been awarded The Groucho Club Soho’s maverick award, for being ‘culturally progressive innovators, making the change’, with our book Slay in Your Lane. Thank you all so much for making this possible and supporting us!”

In addition the cheque for £10,000, the pair also received a Gavin Turk sculpture and Lifetime Membership of The Groucho Club, a private members club based in London.

The pair were chosen by a panel that selected them as the winners from a shortlist of seven. Among those on the shortlist were Chi-chi Nwanoku, founder of the Chineke! Orchestra and street artist Banksy.

The Maverick Award celebrates those who break the mould, challenge the status quo and have made an outstanding contribution to the art world.

Following the success of their debut, Adegoke and Uviebinené are due to release an anthology entitled Slay in Your Lane Presents: Loud Black Girls in 2019.

‘Slay in your lane’ is an inspirational guide to life for a generation of black British women inspired to make lemonade out of lemons, and find success in every area of their lives.

Their second book will feature the work of 21 emerging black British female writers.
