What we should learn from the forthcoming late marriages of MI and Rita Dominic

Marriage is a beautiful thing if the union is truly between two persons who are after the same goal. When both parties are after the same thing, or out to help each other achieve their goals, then you find it hard to hear stories of domestic violence and other problems affecting marriages today.

“Her time done go,” is one of the greatest insults received in this part of the world. Unfortunately, this statement ends up putting many ladies under much pressure, and they end up giving their hearts to undeserving men, in order to avoid whatever, society might say, apart from the natural need to bear children before the arrival of menopause.

The men, on the other hand, receive some level of censuring if they are yet to get married in their thirties. Some fractions of the society always misunderstand it to be that the men are irresponsible. Unknown to them, some of these men are taking their time to find the appropriate person.

Africa’s number one Rapper, Jude Lemfani Abaga, who is popularly known as MI, has announced his plans to get married later this year to the love of his life, Eniola Mafe. Some days ago, the award-winning rapper took to social media to reveal to his fans and followers, that he is set to tie the knots with his heartthrob.

He was introduced to her by Audu Maikori – former boss of Chocolatecity Music – in December 2020, and the relationship sailed the way he wanted. MI will be 41 years this year, and if you look at the videos and pictures, he shared about himself and his wife-to-be, you would notice how fulfilled he must be feeling, contrary to societal expectations of him being married before now.

A perfect example from the female side is seen in the current life of Rita Dominic. The news has it that a bridal shower was organized for her and held over the weekend at the EbonyLife Place, Victoria Island, Lagos.

We were made to understand that the screen diva is betrothed to Fidelis Anosike, who is the Chairman, Board of Directors, Folio Group, owners of Daily Times, and Miss Nigeria pageant.

Their engagement was announced on April 5.

According to news outlets, the lovers, who met during the 2017 Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) session on the film business, will walk down the aisle on April 18 and 19, 2022.

The bridal shower had appearances from Ini Edo, Uche Jombo, Kate Henshaw, Dakore Egbuson-Akande, Mo Abudu, Joke Silva, Chioma Chukwuka, Michelle Dede. It was obviously a star-studded event.

Rita is 46 years old, and I wonder the kind of pressure she must have been subjected to, before now.

I believe our society should learn to allow people to get married in their own time. The criticisms young men and women receive from sectors of society – especially from relatives – are partly responsible for the number of failed marriages we have now.

When one is going into matrimony simply because his or her mates are all getting married, apart from the gossip of relatives, the possibility of making mistakes in the choice of partner, is high. I’m not proposing intentional late marriage, but intentional living is worth longing for.

Peace of mind is necessary, and every young man and woman should endeavour to get it in a relationship, before settling for marriage.
