Popular Tv Host, Ebuka announced Phyna as the winner of BBNaija season 7 on the 2nd of October.

The BBNaija season 7 premiered on 23 and 24 July and ended on October 2nd. The finale, which was aired on Africa Magic on DSTV, and the streaming platform, Showmax, kicked off with an outstanding performance by The Guy, MI Abaga, Pheels and Falz.

As the competition winner, 25-year-old Phyna went home with N100m of prizes. It includes N50m in cash, a G5T SUV from Innoson, cash prizes from Pocket and Flutterwave, and a trip to Dubai for two. Many were shocked to see a female contestant win the 7th edition of the reality show. Male contestants have always taking the lead with few exceptions. Just to refresh your memory, lets take a look at all the times a female contest won the reality show which started in the early 2000 as Big Brother Africa.

1. Cherise Makubale (Winner Big Brother Africa), Zambia – 2003

Cherise Makubale was the first-ever winner of the ‘Big Brother Africa’ Reality TV show who walked away with $100,000 on September 7, 2003, after 106 days in The House. While in the house, She is said to have been the perfect woman with her homely attributes of cooking and cleaning up. She often played the role of relationship counsellor to two of The House’s love birds, Gaetano Kagwa and Abergail Plaatjes.

When asked what she would do with her prize money during the show, she promised to buy her stepfather a house, which she did, plus two other properties.

2. Karen Igho (Winner Big Brother Africa – “Amplified”), Nigeria – 2011

Karen Igho, a then 27-year-old model from Nigeria, became joint winner of Big Brother Africa 2011 (Big Brother Amplified). with Wendall Parson, a 23-year-old pilot from Zimbabwe. 
They both carted away 200.000 USD at the grand finale featuring artists like Wizkid and Mo’Cheddah.

Karen’s courage and bravery allowed her to shine until the end of the show. According to her, her lifestyle during the show was not a strategy but her real nature. She said…

“ I hate being a hypocrite besides, if you go into the House with a strategy, Africa will definitely discover that you are not real and vote you out”

3. Dillish Mathews (Winner Big Brother AfricaThe Chase) Namibia – 2013

For the 2013 edition of Big Brother Africa, the winner, Dillish Mathews, walked away with a whopping $300,000!

#4 Mercy Eke (Winner Big Brother Naija -Pepper Dem), 2019

The fourth season of BBNaija in 2019, tagged “Pepper Dem”, had 26 contestants for the N60m worth of prizes.

Mercy Eke emerged as the winner of the Pepper Dem edition and became the first female to win the reality TV show. She carted home a total of N60m, including N30m cash, an Innoson Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) valued at N25m, a trip to Dubai and other prizes.

5. Phyna (Winner Big Brother Naija Level Up), 2022

Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, on Sunday, October 2nd, was announced as the winner of the just-concluded BBNaija ‘Level Up’ season, 2022. The reality star and skit maker garnered 40.74% of the final votes ahead of Bryann with 26.74% of the total votes cast.

Phyna officially became the second female to win Big Brother Nigeria and walked away with N100million grand prize, including a cash prize of N50million and N50million worth of prizes from the sponsors.

The hype priestess got a free pass to the Finale this week thanks to the Head Of House, Chichi, who used her Supreme Veto Power to Save her in the final week. However, she still believes that she has a well of strength because since the beginning of the Level Up season, her fellow Housemates have Nominated her for possible Eviction, and she has survived the chopping block every single time.
