Newcastle and Liverpool Premier League match on Saturday saw the Reds move to the top of the table.
Liverpool’s leg is still strong in the fight to win the quadruple after they won Newcastle 1-0.
The win meant that they have moved back to the top of the Premier League – even though it can be for a few hours at least.
Jurgen Klopp had made five changes for St James Park, including dropping their top scorer Mohamed Salah to the bench.
Klopp introduced the changes after their Champions League semi-final on Wednesday.
It’s a move that had looked like it will backfire as Newcastle which is looking for form had started the game strongly,
They pressed Liverpool high and forced them to make some mistakes.
But Liverpool grew into the game and they began to dominate possession when Naby Keita scored in the19th minute.
The midfielder showed great experience regarding how he dribbled across the box and past Martin Dubravka before he passed the ball inside the net.
Sadio Mane would have made it 2-0 before halftime when his shot on the counter was too close to Dubravka, who also made one good save from Diogo Jota’s header.
The Newcastle fans had gotten angry that the referee allowed play to continue in the lead-up to Liverpool goal because Fabian Schare was down injured.
They had thought that Miguel Almiron has equalised after he dribbled Alisson, but it was disallowed as offside.
The home team started well again in the second half, but it is Liverpool that was close to scoring another goal.
Mane’s effort went wide from close range before Martin Dúbravka pushed Jota’s shot over.
Liverpool didn’t really play well, but the fact is that they did the job.
And the Reds were two points clear at the top of the League table.
Now the pressure is back on Manchester City, which will face Leeds for Elland Road later Saturday.
