Tomi Adeyemi a US-based Nigerian best selling in a recent interview with BBC What’s New? opens up about growing up in a Nigerian home while living in America.

The 25-Year-old writer of Children of Blood and Bone shared why her parents did not teach her and her siblings their native language, (Yoruba).

Tomi said her parents didn’t teach her and her older brother and sister their mother’s tongue because they used it as a ‘secret language’ against her and her siblings.

The young author also revealed that she always tease her parents for denying them the opportunity while commenting on adjusting to the life of being a child of first-generation immigrants.
