2Baba Appointed ‘Goodwill Ambassador’ by United Nations’ Refugee Agency

The United Nations has appointed renowned Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, best known by his stage name 2Baba, as an ambassador under its refugee agency referred to as UNHCR.

2Baba will henceforth serve as a Refugee Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and in so doing, become the first Nigerian to assume such position.

Announcing the news in a statement on its official Twitter handle, the global organisation hailed the musician’s commitment and devotion to the welfare of refugees and internally displaced persons, while exuding optimism that he will continue in the
path.

The statement reads: “We are so excited to share the news that @ official2baba has been appointed @ refugees Goodwill Ambassador! “2Baba, your steadfast commitment for refugees and internally displaced people is remarkable and we are excited to continue this journey with you! Thank you for uplifting the narrative of the Africa refugee and IDP.”

2Baba also took to his page on the microblogging platform to express his gratitude over the appointment. The African Queen crooner pledged to carry out his ambassadorial responsibilities with diligence.

He wrote: “Honoured and humbled by my appointment as regional goodwill ambassador of UNHCR. Thanks for the recognition. UNHCR is a United Nations agency with the mandate to protect refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people, and assist in their voluntary repatriation.
