5 Nigerian girls have made history by winning the world championship of Technovation programme in the United States, by developing a mobile application called the FD-Detector which will help to tackle the Challenge of fake pharmaceutical products in Nigeria.
The Technovation programme offers girls around the world the opportunity to learn o learn programming skills they needed to emerge as tech-entrepreneurs of our time.
Promise Nnalue, Jessica Osita, Nwabuaku Ossai, Adaeze Onuigbo and Vivian Okoye dubbed Nigeria’s golden girls has put Nigeria in the spotlight and made Nigerians proud after the viral news.
The team were mentored and led by Uchenna Onwuamaegbu-Ugwu the CEO of Edufun Technik STEM, are said to have spent five months researching and developing FD-Detector which swept through over 2000 competing applications to get to the finals in San Francisco.
Every year, girls are invited to identify a problem in their communities, and are challenged to develop applications to solve them. The Nigerian golden girls from, Regina Pacies Secondary School Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria won the world’s greatest technology hub Challenge. The 5 Golden girls beat over a hundred participants from different countries from around the world – defeating representatives from other tech giants nations such as the USA, China, Spain, Turkey and Uzbekistan to clinch the gold medal.
