It would seem the outstanding Dance Afrique Summerfest event in London was just a prelude of things to come as last night, African artistes once again took to the stage – this time in Dubai – and performed in a mind-blowing concert to a sold-out venue holding an excited audience eager to hear the hits from their favourite musicians.

Akon was the headline act and he did not fail to deliver – performing hit after hit and whipping the crowd up into a frenzied state of excitement as they sang every song with him. He showed the crowd why he is an international superstar by being able to not only show off an incredible back catalogue of songs, but also bringing high quality performance – getting into a perspex ball that meant he could be hurled into the audience in a fun and dramatic way.

Flavour was the next big deal of the night, he brought his trademark earthy sound to the event. The crowd sang along to ‘Ada Ada’ and ‘Nwa Baby’ amongst other tracks as he hypnotised with his waist and outstanding talent. Every single show that Flavour does, he just seems to get better and better – the true sign of an artist who constantly hones his craft and aspires to perfection. He was indeed a pleasure to watch.

Awilo Longomba was also present, and the tireless Makossa singer was winding his waist with the best of them! His backing dancers along with the dance genius Sir Loui brought the heat to the venue as they performed breathtaking dance routines. Congo represented and were heard in that venue last night!

The concert was amazing and successful, and this is due in no small part to the organisers who work tirelessly to elevate African dance and music to new heights. Supported by Ayo Shonaiya of RMG Films and photographer Michael Tubes of Michael Tubes Creations, all hands were on deck to guarantee a success; and a success it was!
