The music industry in Nigeria is getting more sensitive as music artists, and their record labels are now paying attention to the rules of the game while those who are not, are getting flagged for it.

While artists such as Kizz Daniel, Lyta, Barry Jay and a few others had issues with their previous record labels, Peruzzi’s beef had caught the bug as boss of Golden boy entertainment. Patrick Anyaene, who is known on Social Media as King Patrick, started exposing some severe claims about the business relationship between Peruzzi, Davido and himself. King Patrick dragged Daviodo and Peruzzi on twitter for allegedly stealing his artist and songs.
This has resulted in many reactions from Nigerians on social media as many chose to take sides with the Golden boy entertainment boss. King Patric had also dragged Davido’s finance, Chioma into the whole beef, which resulted in ‘The Risky’ singer and Chioma unfollowing each other briefly on Instagram. But what exactly are his claims, and how did the whole drama ensue?. Nigerian talented songwriter and singer, Victor Tobechukwu Okoh, popularly known as Peruzzi came into limelight when he started working with Davido. Before then, his biggest hit was ‘For your pocket ft LK Kuddy’ in 2017.
The track caught the attention of Daido who later worked with Peruzzi for the remix of the song. After that, Peruzzi became an active member of the DMW (Davido Music Worldwide), contributing to the crew majorly with his brilliant lyrics and his melodious voice. Peruzzi’s impact can be felt in songs like Ada, Aje and Mind. Before switching to DMW, Peruzzi was signed to Golden boy entertainment in 2017 for a 3-year contract. He recorded his first hit song, ‘For your pocket” in June of that year before the remix happened which set his career on another level. Since then, the talented writer has been with the DMW boss and was even rumoured to have written the lyrics for Davido’s popular song ”FIA” in 2017.
Since then, The majesty singer has been enjoying his bright career right from the time he got signed into the DMW in Nov 2017, or that’s what we thought. So when did the big drama and misunderstanding begin? On the 4th of August 2018 Golden boy entertainment’s CEO, Patrick Anyaene revealed during an interview with Punch newspaper that Peruzzi as an artist is still under his record label and has been releasing tracks without paying his record label.
Partick termed it a breach of contract. He added that FIA, Ada, Aje and mind are properties of Golden boy entertainment because they were written by his contracted artist Peruzzi. However, after finding out that Peruzzi had given the song to Davido, he reached out to Davido who agreed Golden Boy Entertainment would be getting royalties for those songs. According to King Partick, the royalties never happened after reaching out to Davido and his team several times, so he threatened to share Peruzzi’s version of the songs.
On November 26, King Patrick published a general notice to the public about a caveat against Peruzzi. He warned the people and music stakeholders in the industry to be careful of the singer since Golden boy entertainment legal team are taking legal proceedings against him at the high court of Lagos state stemming from his bridge of contract with the label.
When you think, the drama can’t get any messier, fast forward to January 15th, 2020. King Patrick took to twitter to share some tweets targeted at exposing Peruzzi and Davido for how they have mistreated him on the issue. In the tweet, he stated that he would be starting a thread soon with the hashtag #SurvivingPeruzzi. He went ahead to post a series of tweeter rant on the matter.
