Cameroon Jazz singer Blick Bassy is set to perform at the London Folks and Roots Festival with the talented Brooke Sharkey, November 17 at the Union Chapel.

The Ayé singer performed his first band in Cameroon at the age of 17 at The Jazz Crew. The sensational singer and his band will later develop into Macase, inventive jazz fusion group inspired by local rhythms with three vocalists, all singing aa different Cameroonian language.

Haven’t spent 10 years with Macase, Blick Bassy moved to Paris and collaborated with a wide range of artists. The singer eventually released his debut album, Léman meaning ‘Mirror a reflection of what we are’, in 2009, fusing West African and Central African rhythms.

After working hard and spicing things up, he released his 2nd album two years later following the rhythm of ‘Hongo’ partly recorded in Brazil, this was as a result of his research into the musical link with slavery between Cameroon and Brazil. The world has been his oyster since then.

The London folk and roots festival presentation will kick off November 17.
