Popular Nigerian Afrobeats singer Burna Boy has backtracked from his initial promise to boycott South Africa as star announced plans to perform there this month as one of other African star on the line-up for the African Unite Concert.

Burna boy had vowed back in September never to step foot in South Africa until the government “wakes up” to xenophobic against other Africans who reside there after riots and looting targeting shops owned by foreign nationals broke out in Jeppestown and Johannesburg.

But in a recent post on his verified twitter account, the singer seemed to have performed a U-turn on his initial vow as he said that his visit would be the first of many.

In his post, burna boy was hopeful that we’d all contribute in our own ways to make the world a better and safer place. And the singer is taking the first initiative by promising to donate part of the proceeds to the victims of the recent xenophobic attacks.

He wrote: The first of many! Part of the proceeds will be donated to the victims of Xenophobic attacks by me! I really hope we can all keep contributing in our own way to make the world a better and safer place for each other. #Africansunite , it’s bigger than all of us.

Other stars on the line-up for the “Africa Unite” concert include Jidenna, Kwesta and Busiswa.
