Multi-award-winning writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, days after shaking Nigeria’s democracy with a letter to the president of America, Joe Biden, has strongly disagreed with Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka on his assertions that Labour Party Vice Presidential aspirant Datti Baba-Ahmed and Obidients are fascists.

According to Chimamanda during an April 12 interview with Arise T.V., she doesn’t see any reason why the world-renowned playwright, whom she greatly respects, would describe Datti as someone supporting anarchy and authoritarianism in the Nigerian state, especially when he is the one wronged and the one who followed due process.

However, the Purple Hibiscus author made it clear that fascism is a term that can be used on INEC for cheating Nigerian voters during the recently concluded general elections. Wole Soyinka is not the only person Chimamanda respectfully kicked to the curb recently following the flawed election and the emergence of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who she termed a Drug Baron as President-elect. Only a few days ago, the globally-acclaimed feminist dragged the U.S. and the U.S. president, Joe Biden, asking why Americans keep congratulating the winner of Nigeria’s election in February. Chief Adichie warned that lawlessness has consequences, and if Biden recognised Tinubu’s presidency, it would tarnish America’s self-proclaimed commitment to democracy and legitimise an illegitimate process.

Nigerians are reacting and are asking if Chimamanda’s take on the highly flawed general election can influence positive outcomes ahead of the President-elect swearing in May.
