Chelsea was named the 2021 Club of the Year at the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony hosted at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris on the night of Monday, November 29, SB Nation reports. The Blues had a successful 2021, with both the men’s and women’s teams shining.

Success for the academy, women’s and men’s team subsequently saw Chelsea bag the inaugural award at the gala night.

The men’s team managed to win their second-ever Champions League title against all odds under the tutelage of Thomas Tuchel.

The Blues stunned rivals Man City in the final on a marvellous night in Porto, Portugal, to be crowned champions of Europe.

The women’s team nearly replicated the feat as they reached the Women’s Champions League final for the first time in history. However, domestically, they did manage to win two titles including the Women’s Super League and the League Cup. The club’s success had a further impact on their players as they had five of their stars nominated for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award. While none of the five was able to bring the award home, two of them made it in the top five, with Jorginho finishing third in the power rankings.
