The Nigerian Christian music industry has received yet, another massive blow following the demise of Gospel music star Sammie Okposo on November 25, 2022. According to reports, the Welu Welu crooner slumped at his residence in Abuja early this morning and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was sadly declared dead. Barely 20 hours before news of his sudden pass hit the internet, the 51-year-old Christian music minister had posted a throwback on Instagram on his annual Praise Party in Lagos. Indeed, no fans, not the beautiful wife he left behind, Ozioma Okposo and not his daughter, Alula Okposo, saw this coming. According to some reports, Sammie has been battling hypertension for quite some time, but this is yet to be confirmed by any of his friends and family.
However, one of the late singers’ close associates, Righteousman Erhabor, revealed Sammie collapsed last week after returning from his praise party concert in the UK. But the singer was immediately revived and treated for exhaustion. In fact, the ‘Oghene Doh’ hitmaker was certified as fit as a fiddle by a doctor and was gearing up to perform at the upcoming Sinach and Friends Live Concert in Lagos alongside top ministers like Frank Edwards and Nosa on December 11, 2022. Unfortunately, the singer returned to his maker before he could make it to the concert. Earlier this year, Sammie Okposo was embroiled in a messy infidelity scandal that almost ruined his marriage and career. In an Instagram post dated January 25, 2022, the veteran gospel artist confessed to cheating on his wife with a US-based lady in 2021.
He also asked for forgiveness and then suspended himself from all ministerial works until complete restoration. However, things got messy 48 hours later after his lady, identified as African Doll, revealed in an interview that Sammie didn’t tell her he was married. After she informed him she was carrying his child, he told her to terminate it. Nigerians who initially wanted to forgive and forget his shenanigans got really enraged by these allegations and immediately pounced on the Welu Welu Master. According to them, the veteran singer was only sorry because he got caught ever since the singer has had to limit comments on his social media pages.
