Social media has widened out with reaction in regards to the recent statement made by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources about the renowned fraudulent internet scheme known as ‘Yahoo Yahoo’.

Former Petroleum Resources Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke is currently receiving heats from Nigerians on social media following the emergence of a video that shows her condemning internet fraudsters.

In the video, the former Minister of Petroleum Resources condemned those in illegal cyber businesses. She also questioned the ethic values of Nigerian youths,  slamming them for adopting yahoo boys as role models. Diezani reportedly made the statement when speaking at a virtual event organised by the Ijaw national development group on Friday, August 7, 2020.

Speaking on the issue Diezani said, “The ones that have swag, the Yahoo Yahoo boys as my son would say; these, in short, are the role models they are looking at. These are the ones that reinforce negative societal norms and values.”

However, her attempt to address the glorification of internet fraudsters by Nigerians and their growing involvement in cyber-related crimes backfired greatly as people were quick to remind her of her own unclean record.

Diezani famously fled the country in the twilight of President Goodluck Jonathan‘s administration in 2015 while under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for alleged fraud running into billions of dollars. She remains in exile abroad.

One of such people to call out the former minister waa singer Falz who referred to her as a “Yahoo girl” on Instagram.
