Recently, the trending news of Paul Okoye of P-Square being in a marriage crisis has been sparking up some notions.

His wife, Anita, filed a petition at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory and cited “irreconcilable difference” as her reason. She further went ahead to ask her man to challenge it if he feels otherwise.

Rumours of Paul’s infidelity being the cause of his wife’s action has been flying around, and his wife’s relocation to the U.S this year, got people considering the rumours.

Reports have it that the couple met in 2004 during their undergraduate days at the University of Abuja, and got married on Saturday, March 22, 2014, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Their marriage is blessed with two boys and a girl. The first child, Andre, was born on April 11, 2013, in Atlanta, Georgia, US. They later gave birth to a set of twins in 2017. It was a boy and girl – Nathan and Nadia.

In the heat of many rumours, came a particular one that would lay credence to his infidelity, if true. Some said he cheated on Anita with their maid, and it brought a lot of reactions.

In a series of comments on social media, someone was of the opinion that she did wrong by divorcing him if cheating was his only crime. According to him:

“As if your next husband won’t cheat on you.”

I think it’s only cheats that believe in the notion that all men are cheats. They use it to console themselves and to prevent being told how ugly “cheating” is.

Every now and then, the women are even subjected to a mentality that makes them say hopeless things like “cheating is not my deal-breaker.” This actually means he can cheat.

And over time, some ladies end up settling for just any man, simply because they’ve been subjected to the mentality of “every man is a cheat.”

There are several unmarried people who are faithful to each other, not to mention when they go into marriage. A cheat is a cheat, whether married or not. Some of the married ones end up changing their lives, just to be faithful to their wives.  Some are lucky to change the act of cheating in marriage, while others don’t.

Not all men cheat. Cheats should stop using this notion to console themselves.

And women should stop accepting this generalization about every man being a cheat – it leads them into settling for less.
