Dr Pauline Long Launches UK-African Community Leaders On The Catwalk

An initiative to create awareness and tackle issues affecting African families in the UK has been launched by media personality and philanthropist Dr Pauline Long. The programme called UK-African Community Leaders On The Catwalk is first of it’s kind that will enable community leaders to interact with various groups in the society through fashion at different events.

The first-ever catwalk the community leaders will be walking on is Europe’s biggest fashion stage Africa Fashion Week London on the 10th of August. The UK-African Community Leaders On The Catwalk will be wearing t-shirts with messages sensitizing on the following issues:

-NO TO PERIOD POVERTY
-NO TO CHILD ABUSE
-NO TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
-NO TO SOCIAL MEDIA BULLYING
-ENCOURAGE YOUTH LEADERS
-FOCUS ON EDUCATION
-SICKLE CELL AWARENESS
-AUTISM AWARENESS
-EPILEPSY AWARENESS

Community leaders selected to take part on the catwalk from different regions of Africa include Dr Justina Mutale, Dr Dayo Olomu, Dr Precious Toe, Pastor Elizabeth Kalonga, Bibiche Kiala, Dr Heather Brobbey, Imambay Kamara, Dr Boikanyo Phenyo, Zuwa Re, Amb Victoria Nicolas, Caroline Namugabi, Marie-Claire Idikayi,Nora Molongwe and Lydia Tett Olet.

Asked why she established this noble cause, Dr Pauline Long said, “Any awareness at any level is important however I thought it would be great to involve various great African community leaders to sensitize on issues that matter through fashion.” She added, “we will be taking the messages to different events and forums that welcome collaboration. I’m very grateful to the founder of Africa Fashion Week London Princess Ronke Ademiluyi for agreeing to give us this platform. She was very welcoming and it has been an absolute pleasure to partner with her .”
