Famous Nigerian actor Alex Ekubo has called for the renaming of the Lekki Tollgate in memorial of the lives lost on October 20, 2020.

This Comes as Nigerians mark the 2nd anniversary of the EndSARS Lekki tollgate shooting, which occurred on October 20, 2020.

Security Operatives reportedly opened fire at unarmed protesters at the tollgate, which sparked uproar and reactions across the country and part of the world.

Subsequently, a panel named “The Lagos State Judicial Panel of inquiry on Restitution for victims of SARS Related Abuse” otherwise referred to as the EndSARS panel, was instituted and led lead by Justice Doris Okuwobi.

The Panel submitted its report to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. In the report, the panel submitted that at least nine-person were confirmed dead at the Lekki Tollgate when soldiers stormed the Tollgate to disperse EndSARS protesters on October 20, 2020.

Earlier this year, the government announced I. March that Lekki Concession Company (LCC) in charge of the tollgate would get back to their tolling activities by April. The plan by the government was, however, rejected by the front liners of the protest.

To Mark the 2nd anniversary of the incident, Alex took to his Instagram handle on Thursday morning, and the tollgate should be renamed “Lekki Memorial Way” .

He also said it should remain free forever because Nigerians paid in full with their blood.

The actor also sent a message to the government, saying “20-10-20” will never be forgotten.

His post reads: “Dear Nigerian Government, we will NEVER forget this day. 20-10-20. We will return the favour. The Labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain. I still maintain Lekki Toll plaza should be renamed Lekki Memorial Way & remain toll-free forever. We paid in full with our blood.”

There are some other celebrities that share information about the 2nd anniversary of the tragic event, such as Mr Macaroni, Flaz, Rinu and many others.

According to them, a memorial process will be held in honour of those who dies, from 8am to 11am. They urged Nigerians to walk and drive through the tollgate, blast horns, sing, chant and wave the Nigerian flag in unison. Nigerians are, however warned not to bring any political materials to the venue.
