Popular Nigerian Afrobeats singer Burna Boy is the cover on the spring/summer issue of GQ Magazine where he has been tagged the ‘Global Giant’ by the International men’s magazine for oozing class with his iconic style.
Burna Boy recently sat down with popular American-Nigerian journalist, Lola Ogunnaike, in an interesting interview where he talked about his rise to the pinnacle of African music with sheer enthusiasm.
Speaking about Fela Kuti as an Inspiration Burna Boy said:
“Fela is my inspiration and my childhood hero, so if you think comparing me to Fela is honourable, it’s actually not. It actually makes me feel weird. Fela was Fela, and if it wasn’t for Fela, there probably wouldn’t be any me, so I don’t understand the comparison.”
On his journey to success, the talented musician explained that his rise to the top was achieved by taking the stairs and not the elevator.
“Unlike a lot of other people, I’ve had to go through never-ending steps to get here, whereas other people have taken the elevator up. I’ve always been too heavy for that kind of elevator, so I had to take the stairs. Now I know every floor and everything on every floor.”
He went on to reveal how his uncle stormed his hotel room upon discovering his nomination at the 2020 Grammy Awards.
“My uncle ran into my hotel room screaming that I was nominated. We were all so happy,”
Burna Boy also posed for a series of sizzling photos for the men’s international magazine which was captured by photographer Prince Gayasi.
