Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has told his supporters that it is disrespectful to mention Nollywood actress and People Democratic Party’s Lagos gubernatorial running mate Funke Akindele in his presence.

Tinubu stated this during a campaign in Lagos on Wednesday. The former Lagos State governor is backing incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of APC for re-election.

At the political outing, his supporters had sung a campaign song, describing Akindele as a political ‘ant’ compared to Sanwo-Olu.

“Who is Funke Akindele before Sanwo-Olu of Lagos? She is an ant,” the supporters sang.

But Tinubu fumed: “Don’t even bother to mention her name in my presence. It is an insult. It is disrespectful.”

Nollywood’s Funke Akindele & Politics

Akindele-Bello Olufunke Ayotunde, popularly known as Funke Akindele or Jenifa, is a Nigerian film actress and producer. Funke indicated that she would run for Deputy Governor on the platform of The People’s Democratic Party (PDP). To spread the word about this, she posted posters on her social media pages.

Earlier this year, Nollywood star actress Funke Akindele joined a long list of prominent Nigerians, including Banky W and Desmond Elliot, who have had successful political careers in hopes of making it in 2023.

Dr. Abdul Azeez Olajide Adediran and Funke Akindele will be running for office under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) banner.

Her supporters, however, want her to mend her allegedly broken home. Her fans did not react positively to her political career after she made the announcement earlier this year.

About a year ago,  Funke Akindele Bello opened up on her first failed marriage with her ex-husband Adeola Oloyede.

Akindele-Bello, during a chat with Chude Jideonwo on his show With Chude admonished young women against rushing into marriage because of pressure. Citing her first marriage as an example, she revealed what went wrong.

“You know, I just wanted to get married,” Akindele-Bello said. “I want to do things right, have children and all that. When I went into the (first) marriage, it didn’t work fine. And it ended in a very bad way. On social media, the noise was everywhere. I was actually filming, and somebody called me and told me I wanted to die!

“You know I cried, lost some good deals then. But I didn’t let it break me.”

Funke Akindele Calls Out Lagos Government

Funke Akindele had called out the Lagos state government over the recent flood scare.

This came after several warning signals were sent out on a predicted flood about to hit the state.

Funke Akindele tagged the Lagos State Government as irresponsible for not declaring a state of emergency, especially in the riverine communities in the state.
