Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein has been convicted of two felony sex crimes and will now spend the next 23 years of his life in jail.

Harvey Weinstein, 67, was served with the sentence after being charged and found guilty of raping and sexually assaulting over eighty women while he held the position as one of the most powerful person in American film industry.

According to PEOPLE, the verdict was reached on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, by a jury in a New York Court.

The sexual conviction attracted a possible maximum sentence of 5 to 25 years in prison, while the sentence for the rape conviction was anywhere from probation to four years.

The startling sentence meant that Mr. Weinstein, who is 67 and in poor health, might spend the rest of his life in prison.

The sentence capped a stunning fall for Weinstein, the once powerful movie producer who ruled Hollywood for decades.

It comes after years of private complaints about his abuse of women burst into a public scandal in 2017, with over eighty women, including Angelina Jolie and Lupita Nyong’o, accusing him of sex-related crimes.
