Hollywood based Kenyan actress and Oscar award winner, Lupita Nyong’o, has launched a self-written book aimed at inspiring young girls of dark-skinned color.  According to the information posted on her social media pages, the 48-page book is scheduled to be released on the 15th of October, 2019, and will carry the title ‘Sulwe.’

Sulwe is the Kenyan equivalent of star in English, and drama queen, Lupita, revealed the children picture book will encourage and teach self-love to girls with dark-skinned color across the world.

The book tells the heartfelt story of a young girl named Sulwe who goes on a journey of self-discovery to learn more about her unique beauty.

In a post on Instagram, Lupita Nyong’o said that: “Sulwe holds up a mirror for dark-skinned children, to see themselves reflected immediately. It is a window for all the others to cherish peering into.”

The actress also revealed why she penned Sulwe, saying that girls in their tender years are made to believe that light skin is superior to dark skin  —  when that is truly not the case.

Lupita Nyong’o is set to star in a limited series for HBO. The film is based on the best-selling novel of Nigerian popular author and fiction writer, Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie.
