The only surviving son of Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, Yusuf Buhari who is in his late 20s, got married to Zahara Adeo-Bayero, the 20-year-old daughter of the Emir of Bichi, Nasir Ado-Bayero and it was an event to remember. The main presidential wedding began on August 20, 2021, kicking off with the Wedding Fatiha at the Bichi Central Mastid, followed by the reception at the Emir of Bichi’s palace.

Putting the whole country on a standstill, Nigerians witnessed the union of royalty as the couple took the love oath and said I do. From the groom’s and bride’s expensive traditional wear to their reception dresses as well as the decor, the wedding has so far been rated the grandest event of the year. The wedding was heavily greeted by the presence of security personnel and had a long list of prominent guests. Over 100 private jets landed at the Aminu Kanu International airport with all 5-star hotels in the state fully booked. Abuja and Kano also experienced traffic congestion over the event and people could hardly find any flight to Kano and Abuja.

Their wedding preparations started last year, 2020 after the parents of the groom met with the parents of the bride to express interest in marrying Zahra.

The Emir of Bichi, first inaugurated a 145-man committee to facilitate a hitch-free wedding Fatiha and President Buhari followed suit sending a delegate led by his chief of staff to join in the preparations in Kano.

And on Saturday, August 21st 2021, Nigeria and the rest of the world witnessed not only a presidential wedding but also a royal wedding. Shall we say Presidential Royal Wedding?
