‘I doubt if anyone can mention any Nollywood film which is as star-studded as Ebonylife Television’s “Chief Daddy.” If such motion pictures exist, they’re probably not up to two or three in number. So, you’ll understand why it was easy for movie lovers to notice the film.

The second instalment also had lots of stars that were meant to uplift the pedigree of the movie, but followers were actually left in a confused state.

Imagine having the following: Shaffy Bello, Funke Akindele-Bello, Joke Silva, Kate Henshaw-Nuttal, Rahama Sadau, Mawuli Gavor, Beverly Naya, Falz, Linda Ejiofor, Beverly Osu, Ini Edo, Broda Shaggy, Uzor Arukwe, Zainab Balogun, Rachel Oniga, Nedu Wazobia, and Chigul.

Are people wrong when they say “Chief Daddy 2” is trash?

For a sequel that took such a long time to appear on the screens, a lot was expected from Mo Abudu and her crew.

In 2018, when the first chapter of the movie appeared, it got everyone talking.

It was funny enough to make you repeat it several times. There were so many perspectives to understand in the script, and it could go for Comedy, Drama, Thriller, and any other aspect of the industry you would want to place it.

With a question mark at the end of the movie, it became obvious that the makers would have to explain the identity of the woman who just arrived at the end of the movie. She had parked her luxurious car at the gate, and the audience kept asking “is she one of Chief Daddy’s unknown wives?”

Nobody could guess the lady’s relationship with the family. That suspense with which the movie ended, gave it an outstanding ovation from some of us.

The question was actually answered in this second instalment “Chief Daddy 2”.

The estranged lady who was played by Rahama Sadau, was Laila. It was found out that she is Chief Daddy’s abandoned daughter, and she ended up being the new CEO of the ‘Beecroft Industries’.

When people leave the comfort of their homes to see a movie at the cinema, or when they burn data on streaming channels like Netflix, they expect to get some level of satisfaction for time and money spent.

The news of the arrival of the second chapter of the film was received with great joy. However, that happiness was cut short by the content of the movie.

A Facebook user Najeed Bello Oyarese called it “useless.”

The Premium Times called it “an unnecessary sequel.”

The scriptwriters seemed confused and unorganized – it was obviously rushed. It is even more annoying when we observed it was written by three people. Could that be the reason for the disjointed story?

The movie is absolutely horrible, and it seemed like Richard Mofe Damijo dodged a bullet by not appearing in this second part. For an actor known for a certain class in acting, it would be a dent in his image.

In the end, the only useful things about “Chief Daddy 2”, are these two:

The revelation of the identity of the lady whose appearance at the end of “Chief Daddy,” gave the film a suspense-filled end.

The fact that Nigerians have come to understand that the quality of stars, isn’t the only thing that makes a movie interesting –  a good script will always be applauded, even with unpopular stars.
