Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has become the latest elderly figure from the movie industry to kick against the act of men going down on their knees to propose to a woman.

Kanayo O. Kanayo says kneeling proposal is not an African culture but one borrowed from the Western world.

The movie star made this known via his
Instagram page on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, while reiterating the view of fellow veteran actor Pete Edochie who had condemned the act in the past.

“I’m an African and I stand with Pete
Edochie on what he said. It is un-African today to kneel down to propose to a woman. I’m an African to that level. Like we always preach it is not all you see on TV that you copy,” he said.

But unlike his strict colleague who left no room for compromise on the issue, Kanayo noted that people should be allowed to live their lives the way they want and they don’t necessarily have to live with him in the stone age.

He added: ”It is an Instagram lifestyle. It doesn’t stop you from living it. Live it the way you want. We are not also saying you must live with us in our stone age.

“Because when we talk about this, some people who think they are more intelligent than us tell us we are coming from the stone age. Don’t worry, live your technology age but it is not part of our culture.”

It would be recalled that in January a video of Pete Edochie speaking in Igbo and condemning the act of men kneeling to propose to their love partners went viral. The respected movie veteran had likened the kneeling to propose style as a taboo.
