Kenyan opposition leader, Raila Odinga has reportedly pulled out of the presidential rerun elections slated for 26 October.

Odinga, in a statement, said the decision was made considering the interests of the people of Kenya. This was reported by BBC.

After deliberating on our position in respect of the upcoming election, considering the interests of the people of Kenya, the region and the world at large, we believe that all will be best served by the party vacating its presidential candidature in the election scheduled for 26 October 2017″. He said.

What does this mean? The election will be canceled as a result of Mr Odinaga’s withdrawal, this will give the country more time to reform and conduct another election. Odinaga also called on people to protest on Wednesday using the slang ‘No Reform, No Election’.

However, Mr Kenyatta during a rally in the southern town of Voi said “ “We have no problem going back to elections. We are sure we will get more votes than the last time.”

Raila Odinga was a  former Prime Minister. Kenya Supreme Court annulled the result of the original 8 August poll, which saw Uhuru Kenyatta declared winner, after finding irregularities.

This will be his 6th defeat on becoming Kenyan president.

Why Did He Step Down?

“I think he did so because his demands are not being fulfilled. The removal of the Electoral commission Officer and replaced with new one”. Said a concerned Kenyan.

“He knows he cant win. Perfect move. Save for next four years. But am really disappointed in him. He knew he wasn’t going to context, why didn’t he make it clear after the court case. See how people have been tortured because of him”. Said another Kenyan.

“What does Odinga means? Chicken? Oh please! Poor judges, I think they are now looking for their passports, they will never have peace”.
