Former UN Secretary-General and Noble Peace Laureate, Kofi Annan. age, 80 passed away Switzerland on August 18th. An outpouring of heartfelt tributes has since flooded social media in the wake of the unforeseen death of former UN Secretary-General.
Annan was the first UN Secretary-General to rise from within the ranks of the United Nations staff. He served as the seventh Secretary-General from 1997 to 2006.
His family released a statement to confirm his death, saying:

World leaders including President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana, President Ram Nath Kovind of India, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Amnesty Secretary- General Kumi Naidoo, Ireland’s Deputy Prime Minister Simon Coveney among others have taken to their Twitter handles to share tributes.
