Cameroon has recorded a high profile death to the dreaded coronavirus.

The legendary African saxophonist Manu Dibango has died of the global pandemic COVID-19 at the age of 86.

A statement from his official Facebook page confirmed that Manu, who is well known for his 1972 hits ‘Soul Makossa’, died of health complications on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, after contacting the contagious disease.

The message noted that he will be buried in a private funeral.

The statement reads:

Dear family,dear friends,dear fans,A voice raises from far away… It is with deep sadness that we announce you the loss of Manu Dibango,our Papy Groove,who passed away on 24th of March 2020,at 86 years old,due to covid 19.

Manu Dibango was born in 1933 to Michel Manfred N’Djoké Dibango and his wife.
