London Southbank has always been one of the staunchest supporters of the Afrobeat movement, and last Saturday, 11th June, was no different as Femi Kutiwas welcomed at the Royal Festival Hall to a sold out audience.

The Afrobeat star performed a lot of his greatest hits as well as some new material that we’d never heard before, much to the thrill of the audience. His signature style a departure from his father’s love for percussion and more focused on the saxophone is still nonetheless favoured and respected by lovers of Afrobeats and this was clear in the fact that the event was sold out weeks before performance, and the venue teeming with adoring fans.

A highlight of the performance, however, was when Femi Kuti paused briefly from his repertoire to talk about David Cameron’s ill-advised comment that Nigeria was fantastically corrupt, and President Buhari’s lacklustre response to the allegation.

All in all, an amazing show and a return to London’s stage by one of our greatest living musicians. Perfection. Here are some pictures from the event.
