Popular Kenyan-born Hollywood actress Lupita Nyong’o recently visited Nigeria.

The movie star stepped foot in Lagos as the build up for the screen adaptation of author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s best-selling book “Americanah” intensifies.

Lupita visit to Nigeria on Sunday, February 22, 2020, was hosted by the author in a private event where she made some interesting revelations in relation to being the lead actress for the upcoming movie.

For starters, Lupita revealed that Americanah has been a passion project for her since she read Chimamanda’s beautiful novel in 2013 and had the instant inclination to bring it to life on TV screens.

There came the more stunning part where the Avengers actress opened up about learning two of Nigerian’s popular languages, Igbo and Pidgin, which are both integral lingual cogs in the film’s dialogue where she would go by the name Ifemelu.

It might seem like a difficult task learning a new language within a short period of time, but Lupita is definitely pulling it off with the assistance of an Igbo tutor helping her to get the hang of things.

Finally, Lupita went on to disclose that she has a strong liking for Nigeria, sighting the heart-warming, hospitable and very honest people in it as the leading reasons. She added that she will be visiting Nigeria more in the next few months as part of the film will be shot in Lagos.

Americanah will be a 10-episode series starring Lupita Nyong’o, Zackary Momah, Uzo Aduba and Corey Hawkins, while Danai Gurira will serve as showrunner, and writer, Chinoye Chukwu will direct the first two episodes.

The event was graced by many Nigerian celebrities including D’banj, Dakore Egbuson-Akande, Omawumi, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Toolz, Seun Kuti, Femi Kuti, Ebuka and Flavour who were all in attendance.
