Wizkid fans have been labelled the most entitled sets of artist fans in the world after Big wiz lost in all two of his categories at the 2022 Grammy Awards. Rudely disappointed, some have labelled the Grammy’s a scam and while others are rubbishing the albums and artists whose body of work snagged the wins.
When the Recording Academy in November of 2021 released its nomination list for the forthcoming award ceremony, Wizkid fans were overjoyed to see their fave nomination in two categories. The first is Best Global Music Album for his Made In Lagos Deluxe Edition, and the second category for Best Global Music Performance for his hit single, ‘Essence.” In that moment of Euphoria, his fans bragged that if Burna Boy could do it the previous year, Wizkid would win his double nomination without question arguing his 2021 album, Made In Lagos, with the hit single, Essence featuring Tems was the best Afrobeat sound to come out of Africa in 2021. Sadly, the Recording Academy begged to differ.
Wizkid lost his first nomination category on Best Global Music Performance to Arooj Aftab and then lost the second Best Global Music Album to Beninese music legend Angelique Kidjo for her album, ‘Mother Nature’. On hearing the sad news, Machala’s fans have been heartbroken and since raised dust on social media, arguing Wizkid was the only artist in his category that deserves the awards. He was, in fact, robbed of his Grammys. The shocking loss also made Wizkid’s biggest fan, Supermodel Naomi Campbell, cry out via her Instagram page, where she said Made in Lagos Album and song Essence was clearly in the wrong category. The supermodel believes it should have been in the ‘Song of the Year’ category instead.
“This is a misrepresentation and a neglectful cauterization of Music ONCE AGAIN. Give Afrobeats the representation it deserves. You are ignoring 1.3 billion people.
