Ahisa Buhari meets Michelle Obama

Nigeria’s First LadyAisha Buhari as well as other First Ladies like Chantal Biya of Cameroon, wife of the Secretary-General of the United Nations Yoo Soon-taek and more attended Michelle Obama‘sGlobal Girls Empowerment” event held at Broadway’s Jacobs Theater on September 19, 2016 in New York City.

The U.S First Lady spoke to fellow first ladies, students and guests at the event. The event, called the United Nations General Assembly at Broadway’s Jacobs Theater, showcased performances by The Color Purple, Waitress, Beautiful, and Wicked.

The purpose of the event was to continue to raise awareness for the Let Girls Learn initiative, launched by President Obama and First Lady in March 2015, to help adolescent girls around the world go to school and stay in school.

Sharing updates from the event, Nigeria’s First Lady Aisha Buhari stated on social media: “Michelle Obama has promised to continue to push for the rights of women and teenage girls around the world, even after she has left the White House.”

According to Michelle Obama, “More than 62 million girls around the world are counting on us to be their voice and I intend to continue speaking out on their behalf — not just for the rest of my time as first lady but for the rest of my life. And I hope that you all will join me.”
