David Oyelowo

David Oyelowo who was born in Oxford and is of Nigerian descent, has been lined up to narrate the audio version of Anthony Horowitz’s new James Bond novel. The acclaimed star, who is famed for his role in the movie Spooks, Selma and more was personally asked to take the role by the estate of Bond author Ian Fleming.

I am officially the only person on planet Earth who can legitimately say: ‘I am the new James Bond’ – even saying that name is the cinematic equivalent of doing the ‘to be or not to be’ speech…I was asked specifically by the Fleming estate, which is really special,’ he told the Guardian.

Horowitz said Oyelowo had “a brilliant voice and talent for bringing out the nuances of dialogue and characters”.

Does this mean there could be a possibility of a black James bond soon? Still very uncertain because David Oyelowo is not the first black actor to be recruited to narrate a James Bond audiobook. A recent “classic” collection of audiobooks saw Casualty star Hugh Quarshie narrate Dr No, one of Fleming’s original 007 novels.

However, we say Congratulations to him!
