Nigeria’s Under-23 team beattheir Ghanaians 2-0 in the current All African Games football tournament. Striker Junior Ajayi and midfielder Kingsley Sokari were the two scores for the game.  In the first game of the men’s tournament, the Eagles beat the Ghanaians at the Stade l’unite  in Brazzaville after putting in a fine display.

Ajayi, who scored twice in the Olympics qualifier against Congo-Brazzaville in Port Harcourt in July, scored the first goal in the 54th minute, while Enyimba midfielder Kingsley Sokari, made the game safe with four minutes to the go.

Nigerian Football Federation general-secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi, said: “The U-23 boys played very well as they exhibited excellent cohesion and this is one national team to be proud of. My charge to the team is to learn to take their chances as the scoreline would have been higher if they had not been profligate in front of goal.” he added.

Known as the Dream Team, the squad’s next match of the games will be against Senegal at the same stadium on Saturday. Coach Samson Siasia, said he expects his boys to play better than they did against Ghana, when they face Senegal.   “We are happy to win and yes, we played well but there is still room for improvement. We have to play better in our next match and that we are surely going to do.” he said. “Before coming here, we watched video tapes of our previous matches with a view to correcting our mistakes. That’s part of our training schedule and if we don’t do that, we would end up repeating the same mistakes over and over again.” he adedd.

The Nigerian female team the Super Falcons, have qualified for the semi finals of the tournament following after beating Tanzania 3-0 yesterday. They now have six points from their two games and will face Ivory Coast in their final group match on Saturday.
