I AM AGAINST BRIDE PRICING! Bride pricing is an INSANE tradition!
We think we have stopped slave trade, but we still practice it in a subtle way… in the form of bride pricing. We sell our daughters to men in the name of silly cultures and traditions.
Save me the symbolism tales and tales of how it is only 50kobo in your village. As long as there was an exchange of any sort during the marriage; you have been purchased as a wife, period! Or you as a man bought yourself a wife.
I know this might come across as offensive to many, but it’s got to be said. You can’t do much about the past, but you can do something about the future.
That a practice is an agelong culture and tradition is not a good enough reason to continously practice it.
That your parents, grand parents and ancestors did it doesn’t mean you must do it without asking questions, and the fact that you did it doesn’t mean you will put your children to it.
I am priceless. No human born of a woman; a fellow mortal can afford to pay for me. Thus, I repeat that no price will be paid on me.
Yeah right, you think I don’t have a say, huh? Ok! Pay the purchase price to the them and marry the people you payed the money to. Let me watch and see how you will drag me to your house.
