Mixed reactions followed the trailing singer’s Oscar loss at the 2023 award ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles, US.

It was reported that Tems was nominated for “Best Original Song” for her feature in “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Unfortunately, the fast-rising singer lost the award to “NAATU NAATU” from the hit Telugu-language film RRR.

NAATU NAATU made history by becoming the first Indian film song to win an Oscar.

Recall that Rihanna had released her first new solo song, “Lift Me Up,” for the movie “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” for the first time since her 2016 album, “Anti.”

The ballad is cowritten by Tems, Rihanna, Ludwig Göransson, and the film’s director, Ryan Coogler. It is a tribute to the life and legacy of the late Black Panther star, Chadwick Boseman, who died in 2020 after a private battle with colon cancer, which he was diagnosed with in 2016.
